Sensory Sprouts: Sun Prints

Description: Create a piece of art using the sun.
WARNING: Do not expose the cyanotype paper in direct sunlight before starting the project.

Materials

  • Cyanotype Paper
  • Design Materials (not provided)
  • Water (not provided)

Directions

  1. Help your child find an assortment of materials to place on the paper. Some recommended items are nature objects, opaque items, and craft materials.
  2. Place the paper in direct sunlight and arrange the items on it to create a design.
  3. Leave the paper in the sunlight for 5-15 minutes. If it is cloudy outside, leave the paper in the sun longer.
  4. Remove the objects from the paper.
  5. Rinse the paper until the water runs clear.
  6. Let the paper dry and enjoy the artwork.

Additional Suggestions

  • Place a piece of clear acrylic or glass to flatten materials to create a stronger contrast between the objects and paper.
